Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins

Why veins become varicose

Leg veins carry blood upward against gravity, relying on tiny one-way valves. When these valves fail, blood pools and the vein stretches into the bulging, twisted varicose vein you can see. Varicose veins can cause aching, heaviness, swelling and, if left untreated, skin changes or ulcers — so they are often more than a cosmetic issue.

How laser treatment works

Rather than surgically stripping the vein out, endovenous laser ablation closes the faulty vein from the inside. Under ultrasound guidance a thin laser fibre is passed into the vein through a tiny entry point — no cuts or stitches — and gentle heat seals the vein shut. Blood is naturally rerouted through healthy deep veins.

The Doppler scan

Before treatment, a painless Doppler ultrasound maps your leg veins and shows exactly which vein is faulty, so treatment can be precisely targeted and planned for your anatomy.

Recovery

Walking is the key to recovery, and most people return to normal activity within a day or two. Graduated compression stockings and frequent walking are an important part of a good result.
